We all benefit from a quality, accessible, inclusive public education system, whether we have children in school or not. Quite simply, public education is a public good. It’s key to a healthy democracy and thriving society. However, that public good is threatened when chronic underfunding opens the door to increasing privatization and children, their families/caregivers, and school staff are seen as a captive market. In education, privatization takes on many forms and often comes with strings attached.  Whatever the form, however, it ultimately serves to exacerbate the impact of underfunding and increase inequality.
